Introducing our Field Researchers
Introducing Rose and Houda, who are in their final year of their Bachelor of Social Science at Macquarie University. They are interning with Western Sydney Women to gain experience in conducting research.
They will be running a study to capture the concerns, questions, and needs of women across Western Sydney, so that we can continue to represent the women of Western Sydney accurately and powerfully.
Houda Soufan
I’m currently in my last semester studying a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in sociology at Macquarie University. With a passion for investigating gender related social and political issues.
For a brief introduction, I am a Western Sydney woman of Lebanese descent, first generation Australian, the first child out of 12 (older siblings) to finish high school and enter university. Let me assure you that my non-English speaking father is definitely proud!
It’s a privilege and honour to have the opportunity to work alongside passionate, empowering, and inspiring women at WSW this early into my career.
To me, this is not just a research project, but a mission to reshape conversation, to make sure the priorities and concerns of Western Sydney women are heard and heeded, not overlooked or disregarded.

I'm currently studying at Macquarie University and this is my last semester studying a Bachelor of Social science, majoring in criminology. I'm very interested in social work and super passionate in issues regarding our society and crime.
For a quick introduction, I am the eldest of three to first generation Chinese immigrant parents and I have lived in Western Sydney since I was born. I definitely hope my parents are proud of me in regards to how far I have grown as a person.
It is so exciting and such a privilege to be working with women who are passionate in empowering and inspiring other women. It is so refreshing to see lovely women support each other. My hope is that the research project will highlight the concerns and priorities of women across Western Sydney and serve as a voice for those who remain unheard.
